Top 10 Running & Outdoor Podcasts

I spend a lot of time on the go, and sometimes listening to something other than music is a must. Thanks to the internet, any asshole with a computer can generate a top 10 list! So here are the podcasts that I don’t miss an episode of and you should check out too.

Running Podcasts:

East Coast Trail and Ultra Podcast

East Coast Trail and Ultra

Hosted by Ryan “Dad Bod” Ploeckelman and Sean “Rum Bum” Blanton, this NSFW podcast discusses races & runners east of the Mississippi. Honestly, it makes other running podcasts seem tame. Not afraid to discuss the realities of running, they cover inspiring stories and amazing guests.

Man Bun Run

Man Bun Run

Interviewing everyone from marathon legends to ultra runners, Rylee McDermott hosts a podcast based in Utah. Rylee has a way of making everyone laugh when you least expect it and guests open up more than you’ll find in other podcasts.

Negative Splits

The Negative Splits Podcast

Glen “Sleepy G,” Sean, and Bill bring you running news from Buffolo, NY with interviews from stars of the ultra, marathon, and coaching world. If you can’t tell, I like podcasts that don’t “fit the mold” and these guys are both professional and really fun.

URP

UltraRunnerPodcast

The OG of Ultra Podcasts, Eric Schranz brings the biggest names and stories along with awesome gear reviews. You can go back to 2011 to hear from legends or listen to new episodes to hear from up and coming runners.

Ten Junk Miles

Ten Junk Miles

Led by Scott, this crew of admittedly mediocre runners with a ton of experience interview characters in the sport from the mid-west. A great way to power through 10 garbage miles, they do an amazing job of letting the runners tell the story and keep you hooked.

TrailManners

Trailmanners

Not about “manners” whatsoever, these guys host a podcast out of the their VW Bus and chat with big names and inspiring runners. Probably the most consistent running podcast out there, it’s easy to get hooked.

TRN

Trail Runner Nation

Scott and Don host probably the most successful ultra running podcast from the town best known for the finish of Western States. All the big names, big topics, and they keep topics very light hearted. A little too tame at times, but the content is always good.

Outdoor Podcasts:

The Firn Line

The Firn Line

Evan Phillips has a way of bringing you from where ever you are to a campfire story time with some of the most amazing, accomplished mountain climbers of our time. Somehow, each guest happens to be an amazing story teller. Hands down favorite mountaineering podcast out there. All music is by Evan himself.

The Sharp End

The Sharp End

Ashley Saupe brings to you a podcast based on “Accidents in North American Climbing” by the AAC. While it’s always great to hear of epic experiences, these stories bring home the realities of climbing, show us the dangers, and most of all tell us what we can do to avoid finding ourselves in the same situation.

Dirtbag Diaries

The Dirtbag Diaries

Covering all things outdoors, the Dirtbag Diaries tells inspirational stories of people getting out, doing things, and making the most of life. They also have probably the best theme song in all of podcast world. There’s something for everyone in their archives.
